On Easter Monday Rossmore Golf Club held a special singles competition to mark the centenary of the foundation of the State and the members responded in large numbers all trying to get their name on the Centenary list of winners. On a drying course and forward tees players were sure to shoot some good scores but nobody would have predicted what unfolded. Finbar Heffernan returned a spectacular 47pts to claim his first ever singles victory but he only just made it as also on 47pts and losing on the back nine was Vice Captain John Heffernan who had to settle for second place. The father and son combination with the younger man winning out on this occasion and Finbar will be one to watch this year now given that he has that first victory under his belt. Special mention for low handicapper Sylvester Quinn who’s 2 under gross went unrewarded but he is sure to pick up a lot of gross prizes over the coming season
