Just when one major ends Rossmore next weekend is scheduled to hold the Senior Rossmore Matchplay final over 36 holes. This is the premier matchplay competition of the year and this year James Corrigan will take on Bernard Gilbane and what a titanic battle it promises to be. Corrigan is in splendid form and will go in as slight favourite but Bernard Gilbane has huge experience in matchplay representing Rossmore on many Ulster Cup campaigns. The early exchanges could be crucial as one feels if Gilbane can get ahead and dictate matters he will be difficult to peg back. Corrigan on the other hand will be more at home over the longer distance of 35 holes and will strive to stay with his opponent in the early exchanges. If one had to predict a winner Corrigan may just shade it late on possibly going to sudden death holes.
In the Junior final Frank Maguire has made it through to the final where he faces the inform Paul Treanor who was in the hunt for the captains prize for a long way last weekend. Another close encounter is forecast but Treanors recent form may prove good enough to claim victory and compensation for missing out last weekend.
