The final of the Rossmore Cup inter club competition reached a tense and dramatic finale on Sunday last when Rossmore played the 2nd leg of the final against local rivals Mannan Golf Club. With the score level at 2 matches each after the away leg one could believe that the return on Sunday was but a formality for the Rossmore team. Mannan arrived determined to make a real game of it and when Rossmore lost the first game 4 and 2 and with the third game in trouble as well suddenly all looked very bleak for the home side. The final pairing of Bernard Gilbane and John Heffernan brought some hope back with a good 6 and 4 victory. Donal Guckian and Barney Mccaffrey came from one down with 3 to play to win one up. The final score now read 4 games each and each had won 7 holes so sudden death play off now had to be played. Rossmore sent Bernard Gilbane and J Heffernan out for the playoff where both sides recorded par 5s on the first before a par on the difficult second for Rossmore proved the winner.
