On Friday 23rd and Sat 24th August Rossmore members contested what is regarded as the second major of the year when the President’s Prize was be up for grabs.
Madam President Della Hunt was there to greet the large turnout of members as they headed out in high hopes of that round when everything goes to plan.
Well when all the scores were checked one man stood out well clear of a high quality field. Paddy Hughes had just blown the field away with a quiet fantastic 60 that left him some 7 shots clear of the field. Paddy is a very good golfer and has posted some fine performances but to win the Presidents Medal with such a fantastic score will remain in the memory for many years to come. Paddy in his acceptance speech declared how delighted he was to win such a major competition and he thanked all who had helped make this a great occasion.
In second place was the consistent Jack Lee with a good 67 to extend his lead in the Golfer of the Year point’s table. The Gross went to a man in top form with a level par 71 and the best low handicapper at the club Ronnie Berry.
Third was Darragh Duffy on 67 a new face to the winners podium.
The Junior prize went to Cian McGonnell and the Juvenile prize went to Karl Gallagher.
Has Paddy Hughes set a standard that will be hard to surpass in the future. Is a 59 just around the corner?
