Captain Seamus Meehan and Lady Captain Ann Durnin brought the curtain down on their year in office on Saturday last when they were joined by a large number of members and friends for Captains Dinner. This social event saw Secretary Henry Durnin as MC for the night and as usual he entertained the crowd with an eloquent speech as he paid tribute to both Captains who proved to be such wonderful ambassadors for the club.

The Lady Captain spoke about her year and the highlights she would remember long into the future.

Captain Seamus Meehan in his address thanked all the people involved in keeping the club running so smoothly over the year. His highlights included seeing two of the club teams achieve outright success in Ulster, with the Rossmore Cup team under Francis Beggan win following a close final against Mannan Golf Club. The Pierce Purcell team led by the enthuastic Eugene McGinnity made history with victory in Ulster before narrowly failing at the All Ireland stage. Seamus hoped that he was leaving the club in a much better position following his year in office. The Captain’s weekend once again saw large crowds on the course to watch the final 9 hole playoff and he was delighted to see the clubhouse full with members and their families. He would cherish the memories of a great year in office for many years to come.

The captain presented the Golfer of the Year to Jack Lee who was the runaway winner of the prize. It was noted that Jack had scored points in every counting competition and was a deserved winner.

Secretary Henry Durnin brought the formal speeches and presentations to a close by relating that Rossmore were unique in having a married couple as Lady Captain and Secretary in office at the same time and he could assure all that despite a number of EGMs’ throughout the year the marriage had survived the test of the term in office.   .
